Long-term motivation in DSO

I am not an OP player.

I tried Crafting 1.0 and decided it was too random and a waste of resources. I was looking forward to Crafting 2.0, particularly since they said that once it got to legendary items, we wouldn't lose all the hard work we put into the four legendaries to get the legendary we can never seem to find as a drop. It would take a long time, but as a player who has just been able to get into Grotto, I had hopes that this would help me. Now, Crafting 2.0 just wastes the few resources I have. I still play with Extraordinary equipment because the legendaries that do drop are garbage.

As to the Crafting, if the option to save the legendaries was never given, I might not be quite as disappointed as I am now. However, they showed that it was possible. The math was given that it still will take a long time and careful planning. But, still, they had to nerf it. Not only do you lose the two legendaries, you get to pay MORE for it. The greed DSO is showing has me disappointed. I know they need to make money and I support those who pay but the give then take away is pure and simple greed. I won't be crafting until/if something changes to not waste so many hard-earned resources.

As for the original question on the thread....what is the long-term motivation? I think that changes per person. For some, it is hanging out with friends. For others it will be working on quests or events. For others, it is PvP.

There have been some good ideas posted on how DSO could be better. I hope they listen.

I won't speak for anyone else. For me, the biggest thing that could happen, would be for DSO to show that they care about the views of the players. Back in March, 12,000 players filled out a survey on what they liked/didn't like; what they thought important/not important. I was one. It would be awesome to see the results in writing.

Even better than that would be for DSO to tell us which of the important items are going to happen and which never will. If asking for a better mouse cursor is never going to happen, tell us. We'll stop complaining about it (well...maybe...we do complain a lot). If we know that HUD locking is being worked on and to expect it somewhere around X date, we'll be happy to know that as long as we are updated on it.

In my experience, an educated client is a happier one than one left in the dark. An educated one is willing to wait for something to happen. The one in the dark gives up because the light just never finds the way in.

Your goals are the only motivation.
When you start playing you must set up a goal ... and then you start working to achieve and reach that goal.
When you reach your goal ... you set up another goal.
Your Goals are giving you motivation to play.
If you have a goal then you have to make a strategy how to reach your goal. That will make you busy and motivated.
Players who have no goals and have no strategy/plan ... quit very soon.

 

That has been my entire point through multiple threads.

Currently I have exactly 1 map to run.

I get to run Q3 over and over and over until some boring event happens to come along.

If I can manage to continue to drag my bored butt through Q3, sometime around a year from now I'll be able to buy the Dragonache set and actually see a nice improvement to my character.

Maybe, if the rng gods finally turn their attention to me, I might one day get the last 2 pieces of the Keen's set. After all, it only took a couple of years for me to get the one piece I have.

Of course with all that, I still need to get a decent weapon to drop out of the sky that is worth actually equipping.

The pure boredom of grinding the same boring map has caused me to play less and less.

Currently I spend most of my time looking for something more interesting to spend my free time on.

 

I'm running Destructor normal... not exactly making good glyphs, but it is nice to have a change of scenery.

 

After watching that video, I was seriously impressed. However for me to put in all the time beating Destructor just to get a single blue gear drop is even more boring than running Q3.

The last few days when I have managed to stay logged in for more than a few minutes, I've been wasting all my gold at the jesters hoping that an armor gem would show up.

 

Ah, but I'm not going for blue gear... I'm going for the boots. Right now boots are the only thing I have that don't contribute to my DPS build, but getting the boots will give me 15% more crit damage (and likely some run speed), which is something so nice that I can't get anything like it anywhere else in the game.

 

The time for the gate breaker is the same for all of us, but you kill Destructor in seconds, while us mere mortals take several minutes.

You are also at the point where you are only fine tuning a great setup.

Most of us can only afford to spend our time in the pw because running any other map is a complete waste of time for us.

 

Why? Because everyone says it is best for farming?
I am not playing Q3 m1 since long time ago. Don't underestimate the other maps ... there are better maps for farming.

For an example one of my goals was to craft 2 tier 2 RoD ... I have done it tonight.
I was searching for good ingredient crafting items ... I have most of them already.
I was doing achievements - I am almost at 7K points and "seasoned noob" title.

Next would be one very tough task ... since the devs changed the initial crafting 2.0 system and made our task much harder ... i will make it even harder for me.
Why? Because I think I can.
What task? I won't tell for long time.
ATM I am at 0.00005% out of 100% progress ... it will be long and hard job but i will do it to the end. And at the end i will throw it in BP's face. (like a boss )


You can't expect to have fun if you are having no goals.
And of course first you must ask yourself if you still want to play this game ... if not, well that is your choice. BUT even if you start playing another game ... you must have a goal there too. Having fun only chatting with people is still a goal it you makes you happy.

 

If I want frags, Q1 is the obvious choice.

If I want gold/gops, I haven't found anything faster than the 3 mini bosses in Q3.

As for better drops, with my luck all 6 maps are equally bad.

Although today for the very first time ever, I actually did get an exo 2h weapon with a single yellow line of % dmg.

So if you think another map is better/faster than Q3 for gold/gops, I'm all ears.

Sadly I have to admit that you are right on that account.

I remember the good ol days of running the 2 bosses in HOD over and over and having a blast.

That is why it is so hard to stay motivated. You find a way that may allow you to grow your character and DSO finds a way to slow it down.

I'm expecting them at some point in the near future to "adjust" Q3 so it isn't as fast.

 

Just in case you guys are eagerly waiting for a reply from me: sorry, i am busy lately, and I prefer to spend my limited leisure time ingame for now rather than in the forums.

It was my hope that DSO would have looked at some of the ideas presented here (before we got off on our tangents) and maybe would take the time to consider some of them.

Today's twitch session confirmed for me that DSO is not interested in that.

With so many areas that they could have been working on that would actually improve the game, DSO instead decided to once again go out of their way to mess up something that almost all players liked.

It's not about this one event, I have the Warlord set, plus I found the event rather grindy.

It is their clear intention of going after the only event most players requested and absolutely refusing to acknowledge the amount of player feedback on this subject.

That completely rubs me the wrong way, and sadly is the final nail in my coffin.

 

You said you cared about each single player.

(I must agree, q3 is surely not the best map for farming. I farmed on this map for months, and I can tell that the drop rate of ander & legendaries is now much, much smaller than what it used to be. I however still get a decent amount of frags. BP is nerfing the drop of this map at each release, sneakily. What a bunch of...)

I guess that leaves you with Q1,Q2,Q4,Q5&Q6. XD

I recently quit doing Q3 runs [never did and liked "fast" runs anyway (you miss RFs, MFs and ander like that)... I'm not only a lone wolf but also a slowpoke ...] because I've found Q4 more rewarding!
