Interesting. I didn't know you could upgrade equipment above 50. Figured that was where the equipment level stopped, just like the players. I've heard rumors of Character Level being upped to 55 and thought that was what was being referenced.

So, if you can upgrade items higher than you and there is a 5 level difference in Character Cap and Item Cap, then in which case I would go for +5 levels on equipment.

Which leads to the question: If they up the character level cap to 55, does that mean that the item level cap would then be 60?

Funny how you didn't bother to just experiment with it and see what's going on. I was always curious whenever I got a new unique back in the old days to spam the upgrade button just to see how powerful it can get. Did it for kicks only of course.

There is also no limit at to how much you can upgrade the item with respect to your character level. After all that's how twinks are born :p Level 20 character with level 50 items... How they farm for those glyphs nowadays since PW monsters now drop items on YOUR level instead of THEIR level remains a mystery (I wouldn't have the patience to do that in a million years...)

But yes, I guess when level 55 appears probably they will up the max item level to 60. They did that when level 50 was introduced in the game (back when maximum level cap was 45, you could upgrade your items up to 50 only).

No mystery involved. 1) They use xp blockers in fatal pw or excru/fatal events with the higher amount of exo/legend drops to melt. The recent solstice event was a great boon for twink melts  2) many twinks are heavy P2W and they simply buy the glyphs :p

    Luck be with ye,

It's pushing if it's forced, I reckon. Like a lv50 or more carrying a lv10 to make it an uber-monster-twink.
Helping a friend do a quest once or get a couple kills for something, for example, is not and shouldn't be.
In the situation one person pushes for another of his/her own characters, then it's even more serious.
I know; true, unfortunately. But with these new things most didn't even read or care about, they're "technically" not anymore.
Who or how much is taken into account... yeah... probably twinks are something this game'll never get rid of.
You can always get items at maximum 5+ the level cap. When the lv55 expansion happens, yes, upgrade max. will become 60.

unbelievable!... you folks are still on here about "twinking"?, like it's the sole reason the game is loosing active player base or something, haven't you got anything better to discuss?, like for example solutions to revive dead PVP in some servers?.. jeeez..

It is the number 1 reason by far that new players give up on PvP. And if they are a rabid PvPer for MMORPGs, then they leave.

Yes, there are other issues out there but this is definitely one that should be addressed. It kind of makes "showing off what you have" kind of sad....knowing that a twink is out there battling players with normal equipment.

I would really like to see some solid proof to back up this statement, like a 'statistical analysis or report based on some survey, post etc..' giving info on the amount of people who 'actually' quit the game owing to Twinking, then I'll think about considering it as a fact.

"And if they are a rabid PvPer for MMORPGs, then they leave."
I think that is just your 'opinion, choice' ,
but on a more serious note, if they are rabid PVPers for MMORPGs, then choosing to leave/quit the game is solely dependent on the player's 'Will, Determination and Interest' and nothing else (everything else are just excuses), players with more 'time and money' invested on their toons are inevitably bound to be more stronger than newbies, complaining about it in the forums is not going to change anything (upgrading the char's gears to levels above char's exp level is not abuse but 'clever thinking and strategy', I mean I see nothing that is stopping one from doing the same?, so why are people complaining?, and it is the person/player's choice to stay at any particular level they want and not anyone else's), if PVPing is one's passion, then nothing should come in his/her way of participating and excelling at it, 'giving up/complaining' because the fight is up against a stronger opponent just means he/she lacks the 'determination' and a is a 'sore loser'. such an attitude is very counter-productive both in-game and in real life. (I have said this before and I will say it again, a person with such an attitude can never accomplish anything in his/her life, let alone PVPs in MMOs), take me for example, I have faced countless number of opponents who had 'n number' of 'time, money and what not' invested in their chars, but I did not for once flutter in my attempts to battle against them, I battled them slowly and painstakingly, had a terrible win to loose ratio record, and after a year or so of relentless farming (with no p2p elements to assist me, although Ive started paying recently) I developed my DK to a 'respectable/strong and competitive level', this kind of efforting is necessary for whoever that tries to 'play/excel in' this game (in fact it is what such games are designed to teach the player i.e. 'not to give up when times are tough, keep up hard work, maintain proficiency, etc..', it is very common and typical in all MMOs, also holds true in RL of-course), and that is 'precisely' the reason as to why it is 'fair'. so expecting fights against people/player's who have substantially higher amount of time and money invested in their char's to be 'easy' and giving up after a loss is just plain stupidity and lack of will, resp.., it's never easy, such things never are, or rather "It should not be easy", as it would send out the wrong message (it should always require a reasonable amount of effort imo, unlike what 'paying' can grant you, but again that is a person's choice and nothing else). these players could definitely use a life-lesson on 'what hard work and determination' can grant.

"Yes, there are other issues out there but this is definitely one that should be addressed."
ofcourse there are, and far more major in effect and influence imo.

"It kind of makes "showing off what you have" kind of sad...."
Showing of what one does and does not have is purely a 'matter of Confidence' and nothing else, you can choose to be a pauper and be proud about it when on display, that is a 'person's choice and individual liberty/freedom'. "Sadness" is a subjective emotion , it is solely based on how you interpret something, it can be anyone of the two dichotomies 'a tragedy or comedy', it holds little to no significance towards solving anything.

"knowing that a twink is out there battling players with normal equipment. "
I don't understand what you mean by 'normal equipment' here, but if one's objective is to 'get stronger in game, be a top of the notch PVPer, etc..', then paying 'attention/having one's mind preoccupied' 'to/with' other people's activities more than necessary is purely a waste of time.

who? me?. you people are very judgemental and simple-minded, I can tell that with the amount of interaction Ive had so far, then again I should know better than to talk sense with the kind of community that is commonly known to play DSO, I guess.

OMG, I totally did not want to turn this into "let's hate the twinks".
I was stating it is not my play-style and that the effort needed for twinking is ridiculously high for my taste. Plus I love to solo every now and then, and as a twink you always depend on another character that can block you (I don't like this constant dependence for my character). I was indeed a bit passive-aggressive in this direction though, and that's a fair point. :)

The fact that twinks smash other characters of their level in PVP makes me question the PVP-matching mechanism, as it is not power-oriented but level-oriented (sure, they seem to take into account PVP level too every now and then).

On the other hand I am not twink-friendly in groups either, specifically because compared to a high-level powered character, they are (from my experience and calculations) weaker. They don't benefit from all the skills, the base bonuses you get from higher levels is smaller, and I'm not even sure they have access to the full wisdom tree (is the level limited to the character's level? - feel free to correct me here). So I really don't feel like carrying people with this play-style I don't approve of. Is it discrimination? Maybe it is... I like to think it isn't but somewhere deep it might be. We can chat, we can share experiences about the game from different angles, but when it comes to farming together, I have my second thoughts about it.

No, I didn't experiment. Every other game I've played, if you did that the item became unusable until you attained the same level. And considering you don't have much storage to start with and it is expensive to get, upgrading an item out of usability was a "ain't gonna hurt myself that way" deal.

Now that I know, if and when I get enough Glyphs, I will level up items a little above me if I can. At this point, though, I have so many items I'm trying to catch up that I probably won't be doing that till I reach lvl 50.

yup hatred never resolves, only makes thing worse than it already is.

"(I don't like this constant dependence for my character). I was indeed a bit passive-aggressive in this direction though, and that's a fair point. :)"
yes, nobody likes this dependency not even the twinks themselves, that is why I suggested a feature to make them independent and self-sustaining, but it was ridiculed and ignored.

"The fact that twinks smash other characters of their level in PVP makes me question the PVP-matching mechanism"
this is a problem with the matchmaking mech, yes, definitely, the game has no built in mech to make fights even, by buffing the players appropriately as like in other such MMOs, this remains to be un-addressed, perhaps never will be, but this has nothing to do with twinks specifically, and is solely a problem which arises out of the match-making mech. i.e. it holds true for any fight between a weaker player possibly with lesser exp and time/money invested and a more powerful player with more of the same.

"as it is not power-oriented but level-oriented (sure, they seem to take into account PVP level too every now and then)."
enabling the player to be matched with no level restrictions imposed and without first introducing a fight-balancing mech (it's either this mech, or there should be separate arenas for P2P and F2P players, imo), would only make the fight even more unfair than it already is. and the system introduces a higher PVP ranked player into the fight only when there are 'not enough amount of/no' players of relatively the same rank as the registered player(s), in other words 'some match is better than no match at all'.

"On the other hand I am not twink-friendly in groups either"
Neither am I, I seldom help them with farming runs, and 'only when I have spare time, if I like them personally, if I am able to complete the map with ease, and with not much waste of resources'.

"They don't benefit from all the skills, the base bonuses you get from higher levels is smaller,"
They mainly do it cause they want to excel in PvP/Events, simply because it is much more easier to complete events/farm (pve) and improve in pvp (rank, quests, etc..) at lower levels than at higher levels (provided one has continued access to players who can assist them with the process of twinking (a player 'with exactly/only having' the minimum amount of exp level required for exp blocks is ideal) and if he/she is up for it with no issues such as 'active server pop at their level range for pvp/pve', etc..), it is kind of like the 'poor man's' strategy for a more 'easier, smoother and inexpensive' gameplay in DSO so as to speak.

"(is the level limited to the character's level?"
    No, it is not, afaik.

A have this friend of mine ... in the 5th grade he had a biggest willy in the generation ... just because he failed in the 3rd, 4th and was repeating the 5th grade ... three times.
    Now that is pure twinking.
Few years ago he managed to get to high school ... and he is not feeling so OP anymore :)

Good item for 3rd and 4th slot when you craft.
